Adam & I went to the Bari-Juve game on Saturday and it was a lot of fun! We arrived more than two hours before the game began and we are glad that we did. One thing about soccer games in Italy is that you do not sit in the seat that is on your ticket! If you get to a spot first, it is yours! Your ticket just gets you into the stadium and on this night, the stadium was full!
The game was a good one, especially from the perspective of a Bari fan. Bari got a goal early (7th minute) and that really boosted the fans into full voice. We were sitting near the Juve fans which is probably why we had so many riot police (pictured at right) posted near us! What is a riot without a soccer game thrown in, right?
Juve came back though and scored in the 23rd minute. They had numerous opportunities but just did not get the breaks. At the half, it was 2-1 Bari after they were able to convert a penalty shot.
It was not easy for the Juve fans on this night and that includes Adam. I was so proud of him though! During the game, when it looked really bad for Juve, he continued to find positive things to say about the evening. He never talked bad about Bari or their fans and the young lady sitting next to him was very sympathetic to him. We can all learn a lot from him for this! Including me!
We had a great time together. It was cold, at least for us here in Southern Italy, and Adam was on my lap for much of the game. We enjoyed hot chocolate from home and talked with the people around us in Italian and between us in English. That always brings us some strange looks. We had a friend with us and that was nice also.
The next game will be with Micah when Inter come to town. It will be cold for that game also. Inter will be here on the 17th of January and it is usually a little cooler then than now! We may need to take more Hot Chocolate!
